People are purpose driven animals. We stick to what we committed and we do what we learned. Not only because what you decided but also the society you live in. This is what prevents us growing and learning. We thought we know what we know, but the truth is there are still so many things to explore. Take Uber, Google, Apple, Netflix…as example, you couldn’t imagine the world dominated by these companies currently decades ago. But people who rethink about their current status had changed the world we lived in. That’s the kind of mindset that we must have.
By reading through this book, I’d been thinking about what came wrong with my career. I’d remember I did have some passions at the early stage of my career. I want to do meaningful jobs and maybe marketing is something I want. Currently it seems everything went wrong, I had no experience arranging campaigns, negotiating with agencies and I thought these might not be the stuffs I want to do. Once I came back being part of supply chain, I figured out that I’m only interested of planning and products I’m in charge of may really impact my emotion. The problem is, I can’t find what I really want. I kept on thinking what I don’t like about working but never rethink about what working might bring to me.
I like how Adam Grant conclude some of the things about happiness. It’s not what we search for but it’s what we discover during the procedure. Passions are developed, not discovered. I find this so hard to implement as I usually preconceived what I’m about to do seems so bored or it might be too challenging. I believe this is what we called afraid of leaving our comfort zone. Rethinking of what we can learn and get during our jobs periodically might help me resolve this in the future.
